A convoy of Russian diplomats have come under fire as they were evacuating from Baghdad, the Kremlin said. Its not clear how many people have been wounded. President Vladimir Putin has been informed about the incident, the Kremlin press service said. The convoy came under fire as it was moving toward the Syrian border. Russian officials had long ago evacuated most of the embassy's staff, but a core team had remained, including the ambassador. The Foreign Ministry said that the US and Iraqi ambassadors were urgently called to the Foreign Ministry and asked to take all measures necessary to guarantee Russian citizens' safety in Iraq, to investigate the circumstances of the attack and punish those responsible. © Associated Press Story filed: 11:59 Sunday 6th April 2003
